Abstract: The Cooperative movement originated mainly to put an end to exploitation. However after liberalization the cooperatives have to survive under competition. If the cooperatives are to compete and survive their image needs to be strengthened and the public should have faith over the cooperatives. Cooperatives have to bring the people into the Cooperative fold. In this respect Women and Youth are to be attracted and roped into the functioning of the Cooperatives. The International Cooperative Alliance has been making efforts in this direction and advocating for empowerment of women and youth in Cooperatives. The National Cooperative Union of India, which is the apex body of the cooperative movement in India, has been formulating various activities on empowerment of women and youth in cooperatives. A number of conferences, seminars and workshops were organized for women empowerment.
