dc.description.abstractThe Workshop discussed the performance of the consumer cooperative societies in the .past, and felt, that on account of various internal weaknesses, the consumer cooperative movement had not achieved the expected results. During the post-war period Consumer cooperative societies have showed a steady decline ,in terms of* number, of societies> membership, 'and sales turnover. The Workshop emphasized that unless the consumer cooperative societies developed efficiency in their Operations, they would not be able to compete with the private trade.en_US
