Abstract: | The ICA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (earlier called South East Asia) launched a special women's programme during the Women's Decade (1975-1985). This programme, headed by a woman specialist, had been able to create an awareness and conditions for enhancing women's participation in co-operatives. The programme in particular achieved success in the areas of influencing co-operative authorities to provide positive legal environment for women's participation in co-operative leadership and business. Many cooperative movements established women's committees at various levels and also incorporated representatives in their management committees. Many training activities were organised at the national and regional levels by the Women's Section of the ICA ROEC. |
