Abstract: Industrial co-operatives have attracted a rapidly growing interest in recent years, not least in the developing countries, as a means of economic and social development, in the industrialization process industrial co-operatives can serve as an important instrument of change when moving away from traditional handicraft to industrial production. Both governments and co-operative movements in the developing countries have shown keen interest in promoting industrial co-operatives through member/worker participation in industrial ventures. This growing interest, however, calls for a thorough examination of the potential of this kind of co-operatives, taking advantage of the accumulated knowledge in various countries and in different economic systems.
