dc.description | Since its establishment in 1960, the Regional Office & Education Centre of the International Cooperative Alliance, has been devoting considerable time and effort to the problems of cooperative member education in the South-East Asian Region. It has organised several regional and national seminars on the subject. A constantly recurring recommendation of these seminars has been to develop pilot projects in the countries of the Region, through which various methods o f member education could be tested. Pursuing this recommendation, the ICA Regional Office & Education Centre in 1963 sought the collaboration of the Delhi State Cooperative Union and the National Cooperative Union of India in undertaking an experimental project in the city of Delhi, where the study circle method as used by the Scandina vian Cooperative Movements would be tried out. This Manual was prepared in the same year by our Educational Methods SpeciaHst, Mr. Dharm Vir. It was used for the training of study circle leaders and subsequently for organising some three study circles in the urban areas o f Delhi. The ICA carefully observed the development of the experimental study circles. The experi ences gained in the project between 1963 and 1965 have been incorporated in the present edition of the Manual. With the successful outcome of the experimental project, we feel that this Manual has a valuable purpose to serve and therefore deserves printing and wide circulation. We have tried to make the Manual as flexible as possible. It is needless to mention that it belongs to the actual users more than to anybody else, because it reflects the accumulated practical experiences of field workers. Users are therefore at full liberty o add or to deduct from the Manual or modify it in other ways to suit their particular requirements. We sincerely hope that it will be a useful document it in the further development of study circle activities in the Region. | en_US |
