| Abstract: | Credit cooperatives are farmers’ own organizations which enable members to obtain short- medium- and, some- times, long-term loans for agricultural operations. Raiffeisen’s emphasis on thrift and credit cooperatives stemmed from a well-founded belief that the task of organizing and running a credit society helped to generate among members a degree of self-discipline and business acumen which were fundamental to the growth of the cooperative movement. |
