| Abstract: | India has got, varied agro„climatic conditions suitable for growing various kinds of fruits. Among the fresh fruits grown in India, Mango occupies the top position followed by .banana, citrus, guava & apple, Though the production of apple in India has increased continuously in the recent years, the infrastructure for marketing, transportation, Storage and processing has not matched the increasing production. This resulted into wastage of a sizable quantity of apple in post harvest handling. It is estimated that about 30% of the production of apple goes waste due to inadequate post harvest handling operations. The -post harvest operations commences from picking of fruits, essembling, grading, packing, storage, transportation, .processing and marketing. |
